Higurashi no Naku Koro ni – Himatsubushi
Although short, this manga had a good amount of suspense within its plot. For the weak at heart, the horror would be sufficient for you to call 911; or maybe I’m just exaggerating. At the very least, this manga had been successful in giving me goosebumps.
In the beginning, you wouldn’t suspect the manga to be a horror; unless you’re reading a review (such as this one) previously. The beginning of the story simply involves some …
WARNING: Spoiler below. Dive in. 😀
The beginning of the story simply involves a young detective trying to solve a kidnapping case. The victim is connected to an important person in charge of building something huge. The construction of this huge building was opposed by nearby civilians claiming that the construction would bring mankind to extinction.
A little note: Never trust anything written with red color. >:)
So at first you might want to think that this is just another detective story, but as the story unfold, more mystical events occurred. Within a few chapters, readers would easily change their perspective on this manga. With all the mysteries piling up, it will be pretty easy to get involved in the story.
If you reach this point, turn on the light and find another person to accompany you reading the manga. You don’t want to hear the sound of cicadas all alone in the dark with this manga in your hand. That or maybe I am exaggerating again.
The only thing that’s lacking in this manga are answers. Yes, answers. There are so many mysteries left hanging that someone should go and shoot the mangaka. Not! The mysteries are put there perfectly.
This title is one of the four mystery arcs in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. So that explains why there are so many questions left hanging. There are another four arcs containing the answers. Those who are interested should read all the other mystery arcs before going to the answer arcs.
As far as I know, Himatsubushi (this arc) is the fourth mystery arc to be published. However, I find it more amusing to read this arc first before all the other mystery arcs. This is because Himatsubushi had the least connection with the main plot. Reading Himatsubushi will pop more questions and thus more interests in the whole plot of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
